Vivica A. Fox's style leaves something to be desired

The actress, star of nothing I can remember off the top of my head, has been granted her own show on VH1, "Glam God With Vivica A. Fox," in which she judges other people's sense of style.

This would be absolutely shocking if it were not also the same network that turned '80s hairspray and spandex enthusiast and Poison front man Bret Michaels into a modern-day sex symbol thanks to a show about him licking surgically enhanced strippers while they play football in the mud.

But because of their reputation for the, er, less sophisticated (don't forget Brooke Hogan!), the fact that they gave a woman whose red-carpet appearances can only be classified as tacky her own show about being glamorous is none too surprising.

It's not like she was doing anything else.

"Glam God With Vivica A. Fox," premiering Thursday at 10, is an eight-episode series that sets out to discover the next great celebrity stylist. You know, one of those people who gets paid more than teachers and nurses and God because they know how to match Nicole Richie's thong to her kabbalah bracelet. Fox acts as a judge, along with "stylist to the stars" Phillip Bloch and someone who works at Us Weekly.

With so many reality shows out there already, producers are obviously having to dig deep into their fifth and sixth string of talent. This judging panel is comparable to me and two old college roommates being asked to judge the uneven bars at the next Olympics. We may have watched people do it on television once and I'm sure we've each put on a leotard at one point in our lives, but we've certainly never landed a dismount to anyone's satisfaction. Bloch would have been a fantastic choice about a decade ago, but what's he been up to lately?

Fox doesn't see it that way, though. At the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this summer, she told reporters that she has only landed on a "Worst Dressed" list once in her lifetime.

"I've had it one time happen to me," said Fox. "'What the hell was she thinking?' And we made sure that that did not happen again."

Oh really? Because I can think of at least three outfits that I wouldn't even let my Barbie wear around her Dream House, never mind wear them while walking around Malibu with Ken.
